BUILT CIRCA 1840 BY EDWARD BURHANS ("SQUIRE ED"), THE CORNER STORE, AS IT HAS BEEN KNOWN LOCALLY FOR NEARLY TWO CENTURIES, WAS THE FIRST AND MOST CONTINUOUS STORE IN ROXBURY, SELLING DRY GOODS AND GROCERIES. THE CORNER STORE HAD MANY DIFFERENT OWNERS UP UNTIL THE 1980S, WHEN IT BECAME A BAR, A RESTAURANT, AND EVENTUALLY ORPHIC GALLERY. OPENED IN 2010 BY PHILLIP LENIHAN, A CLASSICS SCHOLAR AND IMPRESARIO, ORPHIC AND ITS OFFSHOOT, THE 8-TRACK MUSEUM, SPECIALIZED IN MUSIC-RELATED ART AND MUSIC HISTORY UNTIL PHIL'S UNTIMELY DEATH IN 2014. THE BUILDING SAT EMPTY FOR FOUR YEARS UNTIL ITS 2018 REOPENING AS LIBERAL ARTS ROXBURY.
